Journalist says Fidel Castro died, son denies (Portal Terra)
The Venezuelan journalist Nelson Bocaranda published in his blog on Runrunes that former Cuban President Fidel Castro had died. According to Bocaranda - who became known worldwide for having revealed that the Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chavez, was suffering from cancer - Fidel's death would be announced "within 72 hours". Information provided by agency Ansa.
Since yesterday, the rumors are large social networks that Fidel, 86, suffered brain death. For Twitter, the opposition Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez said "your phone to not playing," but that she "has no certainty" about the veracity of the news. "These are just rumors that are circulating," he wrote.
In turn, the photographer Alex Castro, Fidel's son, denied the information, saying that the leader of the Cuban Revolution "is well, doing their daily activities, reading, practicing."
Bocaranda, however, reported that only Havana expects Juanita Castro, sister of Fidel, returns to Miami to make the "important announcement family."
The journalist also notes that Castro has not appeared in public for months, and that the worsening of his health was kept secret so as not to undermine the Venezuelan presidential election, contested last Sunday and of which Hugo Chávez emerged victorious.
Fidel stepped away from public life in 2006 for health reasons. In 2008, the Cuban government was taken over by his brother Raúl.
